Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

This position is assigned to a Park Service unit. The primary responsibility of this position includes collecting and accounting for fees. The incumbent has significant responsibility interacting with visitors and disseminating information. Other duties may include visitor management related services such as traffic control, crowd control, lost item assistance, and special event set-up/take-down. Duties for this position also include:
Collect appropriate fees at an entrance station, visitor center, campground, and/or other visitor contact stations following established guidelines for handling funds and property (e.g., park passes). Perform mathematical calculations to make change during cash fee collection. Collect and account for monies. Operate equipment (e.g., electronic cash register, credit card machine, calculator, typewriters, computers, and/or point of sale systems) to collect and track various forms of payment (e.g., cash, credit cards, checks, etc.). Initiate resource-related conversations with park or recreation area visitors to encourage compliance with resource regulations. Answer questions from the public in person, telephonically, or in writing, to provide information and assistance, and to resolve problems while maintaining a professional demeanor. Communicate with a high volume of visitors or customers in face-to-face public/customer contact including the general public, students, and children. Operate general computer software programs such as, word processing, spreadsheet, or database (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, or similar operating systems). Prepare remittance reports and bank deposits for funds collected. Troubleshoot accounting problems and correct errors. Safeguard funds, property, and merchandise in accordance with established policies and procedures. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/16/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either full-time (or 40 hours a week) or part-time with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is experience performing fee collection activities for an entrance station, campground, museum, public gardens or other similar visitor-oriented fee operation, providing recreation program support activities, or public relations work. To be creditable, experience must have involved frequent contact with the public to answer questions and disseminate information, collecting, accounting for, and safeguarding monies, and completing remittance reports for monies collected. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree in any course of study. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:
If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. If you are qualifying based on education and you do not submit specific course work information as described previously, your application will be rated not qualified for consideration. A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education).You must include transcripts. Documentation for Interagency/Career Transition Assistance Plan consideration if you are a displaced Federal employee within the local commuting area. You must include:
1) Proof you are a displaced Federal employee, e.g., RIF Separation Notice, Notice of Proposed Removal, etc.; 2) SF-50s (Notifications of Personnel Action) showing career/conditional tenure competitive status, promotion potential and duty location; and 3) your most recent performance appraisal. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
