Biological Science Technician
Carries out a wide variety of field activities in support of such programs as the control of non-native and invasive plant species and enhancement of native plant populations (i.e., inventory and assessment, habitat restoration and threat mitigation, and application of herbicides). Successfully accomplish exotic plant management work by applying herbicides for the purpose of vegetation control under the direction of a California certified pesticide applicator. Must be willing to handle herbicides in order to successfully complete work of this position. Utilizes databases to enter and organize collected field data and uses standard statistical methods in the preparation of draft reports. Assists in preparing draft news releases/reports concerning biological resource issues. Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience for this position is work involving one or more aspects of vegetation management such as:
performing basic vegetation inventories, studies, and surveys; participating in site rehabilitation through soil preparation, native seed dispersal, live planting and weeding; applying/performing a variety of manual, mechanical, chemical, and/or bio-control methods in planned management of exotics (non-natives), native species, and/or weeds, etc. You must include hours per week worked. Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following:
OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
