Salary Range:
Joshua Tree National Park, Twenty-nine Palms, CA ($47,797 to $62,138) Death Valley National Park, Death Valley, CA ($42,053 to $54,670) As an Archeological Technician, you will:
Identify and document prehistoric and historic archeological resources, document changes and threats to archeological resource conditions, and catalogs Participate in archeological field surveys by walking over the landscape and searching for archeological features and artifacts Provide general technical archeological assistance in a variety of areas related to or impacted by the archeological function, including Section 110 compliance, clearance, and planning; archeological assessments, evaluations, and field inspections, etc. Keep detailed records and prepare survey records (e.g., site maps, GPS, photographs, artifact analysis forms, field notes) Assist with preparation of correspondence and documentation for compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, including preparation of detailed site maps using ArcGIS software. Project Work at Joshua Tree National Park:
These positions will be conducting archeological surveys, archeological excavations, and repair damaged archeological sites within Joshua Tree National Park. Project Work at Death Valley National Park:
This position will focus on projects directly related to recovery efforts to the Death Valley Scotty Historic District that suffered major damages to utilities, landscape and buildings provide archeological monitoring and compliance preparation of eight Scotty's Castle utility projects; landscape projects; and building restoration projects within the Scotty's Castle property. In employing individuals to perform any construction, maintenance, interpretation, or other service in the park, the Secretary (Selecting Official) shall, in so far as practical, give first preference to qualified members of the Tribe:
(Timbisha Shoshone Homeland Act, Nov 2000). To receive current preference eligibility, members of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe must submit a copy (not the original) of the letter certifying their tribal membership. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
conducting archeological investigations as an experienced crew member or crew chief; preparing reports on archeological site investigations; conducting surveys using GPS mapping techniques and preparing GIS maps and overlays; and conducting historical archeological field investigations and report preparation. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of an Archeological Technician, or 1 full year of graduate education consisting of courses that are directly related to the work of an Archeological Technician. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take 9 semester hours of related graduate education. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months/years, hours per week worked and salary to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
